Nadja El Fertasi – Building Resilience Through Emotional Intelligence and Cybersecurity

Who is who

Nadja El Fertasi is the Founder and CEO of Thrive with EQ, a global platform dedicated to strengthening emotional intelligence and cyber resilience in the digital age. A former NATO executive and EQ strategist, she empowers leaders worldwide to build human-centered organizations equipped for the challenges of the AI era.

Humanity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

“Being human is being imperfect, with all our flaws and that’s what makes you invincible in the end.”
Those words from Nadja El Fertasi, Founder and CEO of Thrive with EQ, embody her vision for a future where human empathy, emotional awareness, and resilience define how we coexist with technology. In an era overwhelmed by automation and artificial intelligence, Nadja’s message cuts through the noise: our emotional intelligence is the last great firewall against the digital manipulation of our minds.

Her journey from the high-stakes corridors of NATO to the global stage of emotional intelligence leadership reveals not only an impressive career but also a purpose shaped by lived experience, compassion, and courage. Nadja believes that AI should elevate humanity, not replace it, and she dedicates her work to helping organizations and leaders embrace that truth.

Foundation: From Global Security to Emotional Firewalls

A Dutch-Moroccan leader raised with humor, empathy, and a profound sense of justice, Nadja El Fertasi grew up fascinated by the intersection of people, power, and purpose. Her academic path led her to the University of Cambridge, where she earned a master’s degree in International Relations, studying how leadership and diplomacy influence global resilience. At ESCP Business School, she deepened her understanding of organizational behavior and leadership strategy, learning to integrate human factors into complex systems of governance.

Her early professional years at NATO were a crucible for growth. Across nearly two decades, Nadja navigated the intricacies of crisis management, cybersecurity, and stakeholder engagement at the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency). She played a pivotal role in advancing digital transformation initiatives across 40 nations and was instrumental in building cross-sector collaboration between defense, technology, and human systems. Her leadership helped design NATO’s first Customer Relationship Management (CRM) model, and she later facilitated the landmark Cyber Crisis Simulation Workshop at GLOBSEC 2019 an event that explored emotional intelligence in cybersecurity decision-making.

Those experiences seeded the foundation for what would become her life’s mission: bridging the technical and emotional layers of digital resilience.

Ascent: Building Emotional Firewalls in a Digital World

In 2019, Nadja launched Thrive with EQ, a Brussels-based organization that empowers leaders to build emotionally resilient cultures in the digital age. Through Thrive’s initiatives The Academy, Shield with EQ, Heal with EQ, and the AI-cademy™ she helps companies and governments create human-first systems that withstand psychological and cyber pressures alike.

At the heart of her philosophy is the concept of Emotional Firewalls™: the invisible shields built through emotional awareness, empathy, and character strength. These are the defenses that protect organizations from the inside out against manipulation, burnout, and fear.

Her Digital Safety Toolkit has become a cornerstone for C-Suite leaders aiming to strengthen their people’s ability to detect and respond to social engineering threats. Clients describe her sessions as transformative. “The webinar on Emotional Intelligence and Resilience at FEMA was planned and executed perfectly,” said Gregory Edwards, Ph.D., CISO at FEMA. “She made it fun and exciting to explore these concepts within a very technical field.”

Through Thrive with EQ, Nadja has worked with multinational corporations, public agencies, and non-profits to redefine resilience. Her approach goes beyond training it’s about reshaping culture. “Her empathy and storytelling opened our learners’ eyes to the pivotal role of emotional intelligence,” shared Bethan Williams, a digital education leader who collaborated with Nadja on an initiative for women in cybersecurity.

Impact: A Global Advocate for Resilient Leadership

Nadja’s message has reached audiences across industries and continents. From keynote stages to one-on-one coaching, she speaks to the heart of what makes leaders thrive under pressure. Her flagship programs C-Suite Coaching for Cyber Resilience, Emotional Firewalls™ Masterclass, and Cyber Resilience Workshops bridge business strategy with human psychology. Each is designed to help leaders adapt to the growing complexity of the AI age while maintaining clarity, empathy, and purpose.

Her impact extends far beyond corporate settings. As a Mentor at Women4Cyber Foundation, she supports women entering cybersecurity through the Google Cybersecurity Career Support Programme, inspiring the next generation of human-centered defenders. She is also a Mental Health Ambassador, advocating for psychological safety and inclusivity in tech-driven work cultures.

Those who work with her often describe her as both strategist and storyteller. “Her expertise and passion make complex concepts accessible,” noted Sara Chetoui, President of PMI Morocco Chapter. “She creates an engaging atmosphere that empowers audiences to reflect and grow.”

Vision for the Future: Elevating Humanity Through EQ

Through her newsletter, The Emotional Firewalls Pulse, Nadja continues to explore how emotional intelligence can fortify the human spirit in an age of deepfakes, misinformation, and digital overload. She writes candidly about fear, forgiveness, and authenticity, urging readers to embrace imperfection as strength.

Her vision for Thrive with EQ is clear: to build a world where resilience is not reactionary but intentional, where leaders cultivate psychological safety, and where technology amplifies humanity rather than replaces it.

Her philosophy is both timely and timeless:

“It is our pain and purpose that make us human. True resilience and character are built through lived experience no AI can replicate.”

Editorial Note

Nadja El Fertasi’s journey demonstrates how emotional intelligence can redefine cybersecurity and leadership in the digital era.
